Soft Mattress Types

Our soft mattress collection offers various types designed for luxurious, cushioned comfort:

  • Soft Memory Foam Mattresses - These soft mattresses conform closely to your body shape, contouring around your shoulders, hips, and other pressure points for cloud-like comfort.
  • Soft Pocket Sprung Mattresses - Featuring individually wrapped springs with softer tension and plush comfort layers on top, these soft mattresses offer gentle support with reduced motion transfer.
  • Soft Hybrid Mattresses - Combining layers of soft foam with supportive spring systems, these mattresses deliver plush comfort with responsive support. You get the enveloping feel of foam with the gentle bounce of springs.
  • Soft Open Coil Mattresses - Traditional spring soft mattresses with generous comfort layers on top provide a softer sleeping surface. These offer reliable cushioning at budget-friendly prices.

Soft Mattress Sizes

We offer soft mattresses in all standard UK sizes to fit any bed frame and bedroom:

Measure your bed frame before purchasing to ensure a proper fit. Our mattress size guide provides detailed information about each size.

What Sleeping Position Are Soft Mattresses Best for?

Soft mattresses work particularly well for side sleepers and combination sleepers who favour sleeping on their side. When you sleep on your side, your shoulders and hips bear most of your body weight, creating pressure points on firmer surfaces. Soft mattresses cushion these areas, allowing them to sink in slightly while keeping your spine aligned. For more guidance, read our article on the best beds for side sleepers.

For stomach and back sleepers, consider our medium-firm mattresses or firm mattresses instead.

Are Soft Mattresses Good for Your Back?

Yes, soft mattresses can be good for your back, but it depends on your sleeping position, body type, and specific back issues. For side sleepers and individuals with lighter body weights, soft mattresses can help alleviate back pain by cushioning pressure points. When your shoulders and hips sink into the mattress appropriately, your spine maintains better alignment than it would on a firmer surface. This reduces strain on your back muscles and ligaments.

Soft mattresses won’t work for back health or pain if you’re a back or stomach sleeper or heavier as you will need more support for your body type. If you wake up with lower back pain, feel like you're sleeping in a valley, struggle to change positions, or notice that your spine curves unnaturally, your mattress may be too soft.

How to Make a Soft Mattress Firmer

If you find your soft mattress too plush and lacking support, several solutions can add firmness:

  • Try using a firm mattress topper to add a more supportive surface.
  • If you're already using a soft topper or thick mattress pad, removing it will make your mattress feel firmer. Even thick fitted sheets can add softness.
  • Allow 30-60 days to break in your mattress, as new mattresses can firm up after this period.
  • Rotate your soft mattress every 3-6 months to prevent uneven softening in areas
  • Add a solid board or bunkie board between the mattress and your bed base if you’re using a slatted base with gaps between the slats.

If your soft mattress is more than 5-7 years old, it may have lost its supportive properties and become too soft through wear. In this case, it's likely time for a replacement. Read our guide on how often you should change your mattress.
