Open Coil Mattresses

Affordable and supportive, open coil mattresses provide traditional comfort for all types of sleepers — ideal for guest rooms and everyday use.

What is an Open Coil Mattress?

An open coil mattress, also known as a traditional spring mattress or open spring mattress, is constructed using a network of connected metal springs designed to move together and provide full-body support.

The coils are linked by a metal frame, creating a structured sleep surface that distributes weight evenly across the bed. This classic mattress design is ideal for those seeking firm support, excellent durability and great value for money.

Why Choose an Open Coil Spring Mattress?

Open coil mattresses remain one of the most popular mattresses thanks to their dependable structure and affordability. Key benefits include:

  • Uniform Support – Interconnected springs ensure even tension across the surface.
  • Great for Back Support – Available in firmness levels ranging from soft-medium to extra firm.
  • Highly Breathable – The open structure promotes airflow, reducing heat retention.
  • Wide Range of Firmness Options – Choose from soft-medium, medium, medium-firm, firm, or extra firm.
  • Available in Multiple Depths – From slim 16cm models up to deeper 30cm comfort layers.
  • Ideal for Guest Rooms and Everyday Use – A perfect combination of comfort, value, and reliability.

Open Coil vs Pocket Spring Mattresses

Trying to decide between open coil and pocket spring mattresses? Open coil mattresses feature interconnected springs that move together, offering uniform support and a slightly bouncy feel. They are generally more affordable but can have higher motion transfer, which may be noticeable when sharing a bed.

Pocket spring mattresses, on the other hand, contain individually wrapped springs that move independently. This allows for targeted, zoned support and significantly reduces motion transfer, making them ideal for couples. They typically feel more contoured and premium.

If you want classic firmness and great value, open coil mattresses are an excellent choice. For enhanced body contouring and reduced partner disturbance, consider exploring our pocket sprung mattress range.
