Explore our cot mattresses, available in standard and travel sizes, all safety-certified and designed with hypoallergenic, breathable support for your little one.

Are your cot mattresses safe and hypoallergenic?

Yes. All mattresses comply with the British Standard for domestic mattress safety (BS 7177), offering firm, supportive surfaces that help promote safe, healthy development. We use hypoallergenic, non-toxic materials to protect delicate skin and developing respiratory systems, creating a cleaner, healthier sleep space. Our cot mattresses are made with a breathable construction, featuring ventilated cores and breathable covers designed to improve airflow, regulate temperature and reduce the risk of overheating. This thoughtful design helps your baby sleep comfortably while keeping the mattress fresher and more hygienic.

Types of cot bed mattresses

Wondering what type of cot bed mattress is best for your baby? The best cot mattress depends on your child's age, any sensitivities they may have, and your lifestyle needs. Here are the main types:

  • Foam cot mattresses:Lightweight and easy to handle during sheet changes, foam mattresses offer firm support at an accessible price point. Modern foam mattresses are designed with open-cell structures for breathability and often include hypoallergenic treatments. They're an excellent choice for newborns and infants.
  • Pocket-sprung cot bed mattresses: These mattresses contain individual springs that respond independently to your child's body shape and movements. They also offer enhanced breathability and durability, making them a good investment as your child grows.
  • Travel cot mattresses: Do you need a mattress for a travel cot? Most travel cots come with a thin mattress, but these are often insufficient for regular use or overnight stays. A dedicated travel cot mattress provides proper support and comfort when your baby sleeps away from home. We stock small cot mattresses that are compact, foldable options that are easy to transport and clean.
  • Memory foam cot mattresses: Some of our range includes memory foam options designed specifically for young children. These provide pressure relief whilst maintaining the firm support babies need. They're particularly good for toddlers transitioning from a cot.
  • Cot bed mattress sizes

A properly fitting mattress is non-negotiable for your child's safety. A baby cot mattress should fit snugly in the cot with no gaps around the edges. Even small spaces can pose risks if your child becomes trapped between the mattress and cot sides.

Standard cot mattress sizes in the UK are 120cm x 60cm or 140cm x 70cm for cot beds. Measure your specific cot before ordering and make sure to check both the internal frame dimensions and any manufacturer guidance. There should be no more than a 2cm gap on any side. If you can fit more than two fingers between the mattress edge and the cot frame, the fit isn't safe.

What size is a travel cot mattress?

Travel cot mattresses vary by manufacturer, but common sizes include 100 x 50cm, 120 x 60cm and 100cm x 70cm. Always measure your specific travel cot before purchasing a mattress. A travel cot mattress should be thin enough to maintain the cot's fold-down functionality whilst providing adequate support (typically between 5 to 7cm thick).

How thick should a cot mattress be?

Baby cot bed mattresses should typically be between 10 and 13cm thick. This provides sufficient support whilst ensuring the cot sides remain at a safe height above the mattress surface. The mattress top should sit at least 50cm below the top of the cot rails. Mattresses thinner than 10cm may not provide adequate support. Those over 15cm might compromise the safety height of your cot sides.

How firm should a cot mattress be?

Firmness is one of the most important factors when choosing a cot mattress. Unlike adult mattresses, where personal preference matters, cot mattresses need to be firm for safety reasons. A firm cot mattress helps support developing bones and keeps the spine correctly aligned as your baby grows. It also reduces the risk of suffocation by preventing the surface from dipping or moulding around your baby’s face. When pressed, the mattress should feel supportive and spring back quickly with minimal indentation. Our cot mattresses are carefully designed to offer the right balance of firmness and comfort, creating a safe, supportive sleep surface that promotes healthy development and peace of mind for parents.

Which cot mattress brands do you stock?

We carefully select brands known for their commitment to child safety and quality manufacturing. Our range includes trusted names like Ickle Bubba and Obaby cot bed mattresses, which specialise in children's sleep products. Every cot mattress meets our high standards for materials, construction, and safety certification.

How to clean a cot mattress

Keeping a cot mattress clean is essential for your child’s health and helps extend its lifespan. Regularly vacuum the surface using an upholstery attachment to remove dust and allergens, and air the mattress occasionally in a well-ventilated room to keep it fresh. For spills or accidents, blot the area straight away with a clean cloth, then gently clean using a small amount of mild detergent and water. Avoid soaking the mattress, as excess moisture can lead to mould. Using a waterproof mattress protector from day one is highly recommended, as it protects against leaks while remaining breathable and makes cleaning quicker and more hygienic.

    Are your cot mattresses waterproof?

Many of our mattresses for cot beds feature waterproof or easy-clean surfaces, designed for unexpected spills and leaks. Several mattresses come with integrated waterproof covers that protect the core from moisture while remaining breathable, so there’s no uncomfortable “plastic sheet” feel. Even mattresses without built-in waterproofing are made from materials that wipe clean easily, letting you tackle spills before they reach the inner layers.

For extra protection and hygiene, we always recommend using a separate waterproof mattress protector. These are machine washable, affordable, and help keep your mattress in top condition for longer, making life with little ones a lot easier.
